Wednesday, June 11, 2008….It was like being stabbed.

It was like being stabbed!

The most unusual experience took place this morning.  An acquaintance approached me to find out if I knew anything about a certain person.  My reaction, naturally, was curiosity.  Why did she want to know?  I soon found out she has nothing nice to say about this individual whom I happen to know and think very highly of.  When I made it apparent that I feel this person is an outstanding individual who I respect, the mood changed.  My acquaintance was embarrassed.  But here’s the kicker, she didn’t even know the woman (my friend) she was talking about.  She hadn’t even met her!  When someone talks trash about my friends I take it personally.  It’s like being stabbed in the gut!

It made me think how many times I judge someone with out knowing the “rest of the story.”  Of course I try not to EVER say anything bad about someone, but I do think it at times. (That’s human right?)  I’m reminded of a saying my mom told me growing up, “If you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all.”  I hope the acquaintance I met this morning learned a lesson!

TODAY I’M GRATEFUL FOR my Buddha who always makes me smile and feel loved.

TODAY I’M ATTRACTING balance and the ability to say NO and not feel guilty.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY. “I’ve learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go one, and it will be better tomorrow.” Maya Angelou.

ARBONNE TIP: It’s estimated 10 million people will join a network marketing company this year.  Most companies require hundreds to thousands of dollars to join.  ARBONNE costs only $29.00.

Tuesday, June 10, 2008…”Failing forward!”

My ego and I were in a fight yesterday! I did something that I perceived one way, but others took differently. Then, when it was brought to my attention what I did wasn’t very thoughtful towards others it felt like a slap across the face. That’s when my ego immediately started wrestling with me. “It’s not you, it’s them. They’re the ones with the problem, you did what you thought was appropriate.” The emotions were next in line, followed by anger; “They can go to hell.” And for what? Something REALLY simple that’s laughable now, although it took a night of battling my ego to see it clearly.

The experience reminds me of John C. Maxwell’s book “Failing Forward.” Maxwell writes, “The major difference between achieving people and average people is their perception of and response to failure. He reveals that the secret of moving beyond failure is to use it as a lesson and a stepping-stone. It’s a strategic guide that helps men and women move beyond mistakes to fulfill their potential and achieve success.”

I made a mistake, I wrestled my ego. I won! It was a hard lesson but one I needed!

TODAY I’M GRATEFUL FOR friends who are always there to listen! (You know who you are.)

TODAY I’M ATTRACTING perseverance to complete projects I’ve started.

TODAY’S QUOTE: “Practice empathy. Try to see things from other people’s point of view.” “Be kind — everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” PLATO

ARBONNE TIP:  Arbonne’s growth in 2006 over 2005 was over 83%.  What company do you know with such huge growth?  What’s fueling the growth?  *Result oriented product lines, *Result oriented system for success.

Monday, June 9…Going into the future to go back to the present

I play this game with myself when I’m feeling down or bothered by someone or some event in my life.  I project myself way (stress the way here) into the future and prentend I’m 85.  Then I look back on the experience I’m actually going through and think did it really matter? More than not it makes me feel better about the situation.  It also can motivate me to do make changes.

For example, I beat myself up at the end of the month when I’ve (once again) blown my budget and start feeling down because I didn’t stay focused on my targeted goal of saving money and not just spending it.  It’s easy to allow those feelings to escalate and all of a sudden I talk myself into believing I’m a total looser.  Then depression hits and all of a sudden everything in my life looks bleak.

So I’ve learned to play “the game.”  I’m 85 and I’m looking back at the experience.  All of a sudden it seems funny to me that I would be depressed over something that I can change.  I’m young, intellegent, employed and have everything going for me.  Why would I be upset for something so silly?   It seems to work for me.

TODAY I’M GRATEFUL FOR my family who are accepting and loving.

I’M ATTRACTING energy to tackle everything I want to accomplish today.

QUOTE OF THE DAY.  Make it a habit to do nice things for people who’ll never find out. (*Here’s what I’m going to do.  I often go through the Starbucks drive through.  I’m going to pay the tab for the person behind me in line. Since they are in their car they will never know who I am!  I know it will make them smile. :)

Sunday, June 8. The importance of the moment

I’m reminded how important friendships are and how easy it is to take relationships for granted. I visited with a couple of friends last night who I haven’t seen in over a year. When we realized how long it had been since our last get together we were shocked. What saddens me is one of them is moving out of state and it will probably be another long period of time before we get together again.

Time does go by fast and before you know it a week turns into a month, turns into a year. So today I’m going to remember that every moment counts and give thanks to all the people in my life and the time we share together.

TODAY I’M GRATEFUL FOR…. all my friends and the great memories we create together.

TODAY I’M ATTRACTING…. opportunities to let my friends and family know how much they mean to me.

Saturday, June 7. There is a lesson somewhere…

It is disappointing when things don’t work out the way I planned, especially when it is something I really looked forward to. So today I’m reminded that maybe the Universe has something else wonderful in store for me. All I have to do is sit back, relax and let it happen. It’s not easy! I can feel a build up of anxiety because my plans have changed due to something that I don’t have any control over. As I write this I know all I have to do is take a deep breath, imagine the anxiety as a black ball inside me that I am releasing. It’s traveling from my head through my shoulders, gathering excess junk as it makes it journey through my stomache, knees, legs, feet and finally breaking through the skin into the air! It’s gone. I’m better!

The last six months a friend and I have been emailing each other every morning with what we are grateful for and what we are attracting into our lives. I’ve decided to do this on bobhoffman.org. I would LOVE for other people to jump on board and post what they are grateful for and are attracting into their lives.

TODAY I’M GRATEFUL my wonderful house.

I’M ATTRACTING more people to share what they are grateful for and what they are attracting into their lives.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

Be open and accessible. the next person you meet could become your best friend.

MOTIVATIONAL THOUGHTS:

“The ability to stay focused is not a gift or a talent. It’s a DECISION!” Today I’m deciding to be FOCUSED!

We are still in the process of building the site but plan to have it complete by August 1.  That means, if you sign up, every week you’ll receive a positive thought along with a useful life fact from me.

My hope is you all share this site with your family and friends and soon we’ll have a community of like minded people sharing great stories that inspire us to be our best!

Thanks,

Bob Hoffman
