This past year I met someone who absolutely intrigued me from the first moment we spoke. Sheâs positive, smart, goal oriented and is making a difference in many peopleâs lives. Immediately I knew I wanted to get to know her better because her passion for good health is contagious.
Jenn Dubey and I first met at a Lansing Rotary meeting. I sought her out after hearing her speak about eating healthier, exercise and good health. Jenn has this aura about her that oozes friendliness and since she is so easily approachable I decided to tell her about my struggles with weight, food and the gym.  That conversation led to several months of Jenn educating me on how take better care of myself.
As the new-year starts Iâm once again finding myself back at it; making goals to get in shape, eat better, and be more diligent about writing in my blog and profiling people I think of as mentors.
Hereâs what Jenn had to say:
Who/what inspires you?
I am inspired by people who truly live life and can see the good in any situation. We are conditioned to think about the negative. I am inspired by the positive. My friend Anna comes to mind. Even though she has a progressive disability, she smiles every single day and can find the good in any situation.  Her motto is ânever give up⦠no matter what.â I have never seen anyone appreciate life the way she does. We all need an âAnnaâ in our life! It keeps us on the right side of the equation.
Do you have a slogan, motto or mantra?
I donât know that I would call it a mantra⦠but my goal is to leave this world having known I contributed to making it a better place. I am passionate about wellness and people, so I work very hard to help bring people to a place where they can experience more energy and vitality in this crazy unhealthy culture we live in. My message is about loving yourself so you can be better for others. The best way to do that is to physically and emotionally be well. (Just talking about it makes me happy!!)
Do you have a lesson or thought to share?
I am a personal trainer, wellness coach, and mother of three⦠I have a ton of lessons I want to share! Those that know me understand I do not dance around my beliefs. I donât want to offend anyone, but my âone thoughtâ is to stop thinking you are entitled.  I know that sounds harsh, but I think we have reached a place where we feel we deserve so much without sometimes having to really work for it. Good health, for example, is not an entitlement. We have to work every day to keep our health; otherwise, it will leave us. We have to make good choices about moving our body, managing our stress, and eating quality foods year after year. Health is a gift. Cherish that gift by making good choices!
How do you deal with stress?
The first thing I want people to know is stress is normal. Donât ever expect that stress will leave you. But managing it is how we combat its effect on us. I have several things. First, I LOVE my foam roller. It is what I call a âpoor manâs massageâ.  I roll on it to relax almost every day. Secondly, I meditate. Yes, I love to put on headphones and play some delightful background music as I lie on my bed and just âbeâ. Third, I would be totally lying if I didnât admit a good Melbec helps me on occasion! Okay, Okay!! We all have our vices and wine is one of mine. 🙂
