I met Justin several years ago after being introduced by our mutual friend Penny Rodriguez.  Within seconds of meeting I knew we were going to be friends. I didnât realize until later how much he would inspire me.
Justin continually gives back to the community. He started LUNCH WITH A PURPOSE, a volunteer organization that is made up of a group of people whoâ once a week âdonate their lunch hour to help others in need. The LUNCH WITH A PURPOSE website states, âWhether itâs cooking food or folding bed sheets, a lot of people with a little time make a huge difference.â If you know Justin, this is his M.O.
Justin also started BATTLEFIELD BRAWL, a flag football tournament to raise money and awareness for Oldham Kids. This family-friendly event draws huge crowds each year! The next event is coming up April 2014 and you can still register a team at BATTLEFIELD BRAWL.
I think the quote on Good Fruit Videoâs website (Justin and his business partner Kraig Westfall’s company) says it all: âBe good. Be Fruitful.â This is something Justin does daily!
Who/What inspires you?
The obvious answer is my family and friends. However, professionally, who inspires me is Kellie Dean. He’s built a successful business and he is also one of the most caring and philanthropic people I know. He has laid a path of success I look to follow.
Do you have a slogan, motto or mantra?
“Life isn’t a dress rehearsal.â That becomes too apparent when you nearly lose your life at ten years old. The other quote comes from a hip hop song from the rapper, Ludacris. Hip hop and rock are a big part of my life. They help push me through the occasional tough time, and give me a bit of swagger when I need it. The quote is… “When I came into the game they ain’t do nothing but doubt me, now the whole games changed and it ain’t nothing without me. Reach your hands up in the air and you can play with the stars. It’s not the hand that you’re dealt, but how you’re playing your cards.” I used to listen to that all the time when I started out in business. When you start out, you’re rarely well-known and you have a large number of doubters. The ultimate goal is to change the game and become a big time player in it.
Do you have a lesson or thought to share?
1. Many people ask me how I have time to run a business and charitable/grass roots organizations plus have a family, be involved in my community (which is very important) and still have time to work out, race, etc. The answer is simple… Don’t go it alone. Â If I was the only player in everything I do than most of the things I do wouldn’t happen. I am good at envisioning solutions to problems, but it’s the people who I surround myself with that help make it go; and go smoothly.
2. Everyone can talk, but until you do what you say your going to do than you are just a talker! And if you don’t do what you say then eventually people are going to stop listening.
How do you deal with stress?
The two best ways I relieve stress are working out and drinking alcohol. As I have gotten older, I’ve started to sway my choices much more towards the former than the latter.
Anything you want to share?
If you want to do something than just do it; if it doesn’t work out you already took an idea further than 99% of other people will.
